Don't Forget : HOA Dues

Don't forget that the annual LaFayette Ridge Homeowners Association dues are now due. This year the dues are $15. 100% participation would be wonderful - even if you aren't an "active" member of the HOA.

Dues pay for our annual cookouts, the Christmas dinner, the power bill for the front entrance lights and other items that pop up during the year. Please submit your check, made payable to the LaFayette Ridge HOA, to Paul Smith.

Financial reports are available at all times for your review.

3 Mailboxes Damaged or Destroyed Saturday Night

School has only been out for one week and LaFayette Ridge has already been the target of vandals. Three mailboxes in the subdivision were either damaged or completely destroyed Saturday night/Sunday morning.

Please keep an eye out for our neighbors. Call the police if any suspicious activity is seen.

And while we are on the subject of mailboxes, it's that time of year again to spruce up your mailbox with a fresh coat of paint. Let's keep our neighborhood looking beautiful.

2012 Tax Assessments

Tax assessments hit the mailboxes of LaFayette Ridge neighbors today.

On average, the new "fair market value" of homes in the neighborhood ranged from $130,000 - $169,000. These prices are considerably lower than the original sales prices of LaFayette Ridge homes back in 1997.

On a positive note, mortgage rates are at the lowest levels in decades at 3.79% for a 30-year fixed rate and 3.04% for a 15-year fixed rate.

Burnouts in the Neighborhood

Several neighbors have complained recently about teenagers doing burnouts in the neighborhood. The latest incident occurred on Saturday afternoon on LaFayette Court. Neighbors have indicated that they will speak to the mother of the teenager involved.

Please talk to your teen drivers and remind them that our neighborhood is a place where children play freely. They should be respectful of the neighborhood, their fellow neighbors and all driving laws.

Horizon Software Building to Possibly Become Teen Drug Rehab Center

According to County Commissioner Chuck Bagley, the former Horizon Software building, located on Hwy 20 about 1 mile south of McCullers Road, has been purchased by a company specializing in rehabbing teen drug abusers.

Here's what Mr. Bagley wrote in an email, "Thanks for the inquiry as there is much misinformation floating around. Horizon Software sold the property to Teen Challenge International Georgia around the fourth quarter of 2011. I understand but did not confirm the sale price was $3,250,000.00 and $2,250,000.00 was waived/forgiven or the such. This leaves a balance of $1,000,000.00. The zoning for both businesses is the same; this means the same as selling a house, there was and is no need for any zoning application.

There has been no action on the property to the best of my knowledge and the Loganville location is not listed as a location on the website http://teenchallengegaintl.com/index.html I have placed a telephone call to Pastor Tim for an update regarding the plans for the Loganville location. Please call if you have any questions."

More to come. . .
