Hope United in the Bay Creek Mobile Home Park

For the past 14 months, I have spent almost every Weds. afternoon hanging out in the Bay Creek Mobile Home Park in Loganville. Our church, 1st Baptist Loganville, purchased a trailer there and set up Hope United, an afterschool tutoring/mentoring ministry for the children who live in Bay Creek. The program frequently sees between 50-60 students each Wednesday. Starting last Tues., we added a second day each week (Tuesday and Wednesday).

The program runs on a limited basis during the summer months. It is my goal to see the kids continue to study, learn and READ throughout the summer. I read an interesting article on a grassroots reading effort called
The Little Free Library, where folks all around the globe are setting up free libraries in their neighborhoods, communities, etc. I have a vision of setting up a Little Free Library in the Bay Creek Mobile Home Park and I hope you will help me see that vision come to fruition.

If you have any old children’s books, coloring books, etc that you would like to donate, please let me know. I will add them to the collection and I hope and pray that the kids out at Bay Creek will be motivated, inspired and encouraged to use them and read every day! I will be happy to come around and collect your items.

Or, if you have a teenage child who would like to volunteer at Hope United, please let me know. I am happy to provide them transportation or more information on the program. The kids are normally there from 4 – 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
