Gwinnett Fire Dept. Event Created by LaFayette Ridge Neighbor

Students from across the county gathered at the Gwinnett County Fire Academy in Dacula on May 6 for a special event. The FLAME (Firefighters Lunch and Mentoring Experience) celebrated another year of helping area students by giving program participants the opportunity to learn about the rigorous training needed to become a firefighter, paramedic or emergency medical technician during a special lunch and day camp.

Battalion chief Eddie Meyers, a resident of LaFayette Ridge, founded the program three years ago.

Walton County Burn Ban

Walton County is under an outdoor burn ban. The ban went into effect May 1 and remains in force until Sept. 30. All types of outdoor or open burning are prohibited during this time.

Neighborhood News

Get well soon wishes are being sent to Tom Scruggs who is battling a serious health problem.

Our prayers are with Olivia Taylor so that her foot will heal in time for her upcoming dance recital(s).

Happy (belated) 40th anniversary to Alvin and Linda Kidd!

Happy 1st Birthday to our newest neighbor, Logan Farmer.

HOA dues are still being calculated for 2011. Electrical repairs are needed on the front entrance lights and Paul will notify neighbors of the fee when the bill is tallied.

Medical Crews Respond to LaFayette Ridge

Fire department personnel and an ambulance responded to LaFayette Ridge Saturday for a medical emergency call. A friend of the Chandler's fell ill at their home around 3:30 p.m.

After being checked out, the man was deemed okay. He wasn't transported to the hospital.

Tax Assessor Visits LaFayette Ridge

Several LaFayette Ridge neighbors have petitioned the Walton County Tax Assessors office to lower their property taxes for 2011.

On Thursday, an employee from the Tax Assessors office paid a visit to LaFayette Ridge to begin the initial phase of the reassessment process.

Power Restored After 14-Hour Outage

Power to LaFayette Ridge was restored around 2 p.m. Tuesday after a 14-hour outage. Walton EMC reported 8,000 people in our area were without power this morning.
A powerful storm with strong winds rolled into Walton County around 11 p.m. Monday evening. The storm dumped over an inch and a half of rain in the neighborhood.
Six people lost their lives throughout the state as a result of the storm including a father and his three-year-old son in Jackson.
