As the LaFayette Ridge World Turns . . . Our Own Soap Opera Unfolding

Cement mixers line the property between the Johnson Road home and the Smith's backyard

It all began on August 31st.

A loud commotion coming from the woods drew the interest of La Fayette Ridge neighbors, especially those on La Fayette Place. It went on for days and days – tractors in and out, trees and brush being torn down and pushed aside exposing a large 2-3 acre plat of mud, dirt and raw land. Then more commotion came – day and night as equipment was being brought in for “storage” on the lot. A partial "privacy" fence was erected. The view is an eyesore.

The property owner – notorious for her rental home on Johnson Road with 8-12 “renters” and pitbull dogs that have often been spotted running loose in La Fayette Ridge, said the property was being used to store equipment and tools for a cement business. Walton County Code Enforcement was called. No action was taken immediately.

Until La Fayette Ridge neighbors got more involved - taking photographs and contacting our County Commissioner for help. Now, we are pleased to share the good news with our fellow neighbors. The county has deemed the 18+ cement mixers, various tools and pieces of scaffolding as “excessive” for this residential landscape. A county official has informed La Fayette Ridge neighbors that all the equipment must be removed by Sept. 23rd.

More details to come. . .
