The deadline to argue your property taxes in Walton County - and throughout the state - is April 1st. With the recent disparity of home prices in LaFayette Ridge, this year could be the best to argue your property taxes - and win.
According to the Walton County Tax Assessors office, in order to argue your home's property taxes, the comp home must be identical in square footage to your home. You will need to file the return and tell them what you feel your home's new value is (or should be) and give an appraisal if you have one.
Foreclosed homes are considered comps now. Two homes in LaFayette Ridge have foreclosed. We can't go on the list price, however. When the George's home is sold and the records are available, we'll know what to compare our values to. The asking price was $152,000 though and that should bring our values down to a comparable price.
Even if we only get a one year reprieve, it will be better than paying the higher values when our homes are no longer worth it. More to come. . .
